Begin Transition From Paper/FAX To Ease Of Secure Messaging Communication System

The WV Health Information Network (WVHIN) has a secure messaging system (WVDirect) available to health care providers in the state. WVDirect is a simple, encrypted messaging solution so health care providers can quickly share messages and health information needed to provide patient care. It enable participating health care providers to transition from using current paper/fax transmissions to using electronic messaging communications. The West Virginia Regional HIT Extension Center recently hosted a "web-based" seminar series on EHR Privacy & Security issues. The series helps to educate doctors, office managers, and clinic directors on privacy and security practices for health care providers who use electronic health record systems…or who are considering implementing a system. Nearly 1,300 primary care providers across West Virginia have joined the West Virginia Regional Health Information Technology Extension Center (WVRHITEC), and this number is about 30 percent better than the center had anticipated. The West Virginia center was charged initially with recruiting 1,000 primary care providers, but thanks to efforts of many organizations the center was able to surpass its original recruitment goal.
